What breaks in a sprinkler system, and why
Broken sprinkler heads and cracked pipes waste water and eat away at your wallet. The causes are ordinary. Age wears fittings out. Accidents, misuse and digging do the rest, and frozen pipes split lines that were holding water when the cold came.
A mower or a car tire takes out a head. A shovel goes through a lateral. Small damage keeps wasting water until someone fixes it, which is why the advice is not to ignore it. Akland's technicians repair the system and restore it to working condition before major damage occurs.

Repair and tune-up, and what Akland no longer does
Akland Pump & Irrigation offers residential, agricultural, and commercial irrigation system repair. Experienced repair personnel can repair or tune up your system, and the shop offers system startups, winterization, inspections, and updates.
One thing to know before you call: Akland is no longer designing sprinkler systems. They repair existing ones. If the system is already in the ground and something is wrong with it, this is the right place. If you need a new layout drawn from scratch, it is not.
Replacement parts and replacement pumps are a different matter. The supply store stocks what a repair needs, and if the problem is unusual, the shop can custom weld and order special fabrications to meet your specific needs.
Chapter 03
Blowouts before the freeze, start-ups in spring
In Yakima, schedule your winterization blowout between mid-October and early November. Freezing temperatures usually hit by mid-November, and water left behind in the lines will freeze, expand and crack pipe, valves and the backflow assembly.
Blowing the lines out with air pushes that water out before it can freeze. Skipping it is how frost-split lines and cracked-pipe repairs turn up in the spring.
Akland does blowouts, and it also gets your system started up and adjusted in the spring. If a zone will not come on or a head is throwing water where it should not, that is the time to say so.
