THE REPAIR SHOP
Pump Repair Shop in Yakima, WA
A full service repair shop for jet, centrifugal, pool, sub-turbine and turbine pumps: rebuilds, seals, custom welding and a winter storage program.
Chapter 01
What comes through the shop door
The knowledgeable staff in the repair shop can repair just about any jet, centrifugal, or pool pump, and they perform maintenance on most pumps. The shop's own FAQ adds spa pumps, sub-turbine pumps and turbine pumps to that list.
Pumps usually arrive for a short list of reasons. A seal has let go and water is getting where it should not. An impeller is worn and the pump no longer makes the pressure it used to. A motor is tripping, or the pump just sounds wrong and is not producing what it should. The bench is where those symptoms get sorted out.
The wider repair list reads: domestic well, irrigation and pond pump; sprinkler system; cracked pipes; broken sprinkler heads; aluminum pipe. Irrigation systems break in ordinary ways, from age and accidental damage to misuse, digging and frozen pipes.

A lathe, a bench and people who rebuild for a living
The shop has a big green lathe and it earns its floor space. Shafts get cut on it, and a rebuild often starts there. At the bench, technicians work on motors and pumps. Bobby Pottenger brought a pump in to be rebuilt and called Kyle in the pump department the most knowledgeable person he had talked to about it.
Some jobs do not fit a catalog page. The technicians are trained to custom weld and can order special fabrications to meet your specific needs, so an unusual pump does not have to be a dead end.
Rudy Oberlander took an irrigation pump down to be inspected and have a seal replaced. The shop sent him a video of them testing the pump, to show him it was in good working order to begin with. You get to see what the bench saw.
Chapter 03
Winter storage and the spring rush
Ask about the winter storage program. If a pump is idle for the cold months, the shop can look after it for you, and you can have it checked over before the season starts again.
Akland's Facebook page makes the same point to the valley: get an irrigation pump in early and you miss the spring rush. You can call and ask about getting it brought in, or drop it off yourself.
How often depends on the pump. From their FAQ: a domestic house pump should get a yearly service check, an irrigation pump should be serviced at least every three years or any time it is not sounding right or producing what it should, and turbine motors should be checked every couple of years.

Where the rebuilds happen

Wheel line and hand-line
We know how important it is to keep your fields watered. We can repair wheel line. We carry a large selection of gaskets and parts to keep your fields in water. More on that, and on the aluminum pipe Ole Akland started with in 1949, is on the wheel line and hand-line page.
Need a part rather than a rebuild? The supply store is in the same building.
“Kyle in the pump department is hands down the most knowledgeable guy I’ve talked to When it comes to rebuilding pumps . He went above and beyond by helping me get my pump fixed. I would recommend him to anyone. Akland pump give that guy a raise !”
