Pump and irrigation service in Selah, WA
Selah is the town at the gateway to the Yakima River Canyon, just north of Yakima across the Selah Gap. It was incorporated in 1919 and grew up around tree fruit, fruit processing and family neighborhoods. Ridge lines and the river frame it, the summers are sunny, and almost nothing falls from the sky between June and September.
Properties near the valley floor tend to be cobble and river rock. Homes up on Selah Heights sit on fine silt loam over hardpan. The two behave differently under a sprinkler, and they put different loads on a pump. Where private wells sit close to the river, the well pump and pressure tank are the part of the system that gets noticed first, usually when the pump begins to cycle on and off or the house loses water.
A pressure tank holds a small amount of water so the pump does not start every time a tap opens. It does not cause high or low pressure. If the pump is cycling, the tank may only need air, or it may need replacing. Domestic house pumps are due for a yearly service check, and an after-hours technician can be reached through the shop number if the pump quits on a weekend.
Zones that quit and assemblies that crack
Cold wind down the canyon splits what is left in the pipe
Winter wind coming down the Yakima Canyon can freeze the ground deep. If the winterization blowout is rushed, water sits in the manifold and the pipe splits. The sprinkler service crew blows systems out in the fall, starts them in the spring, and repairs split pipe, broken heads and damaged solenoids in between. Akland repairs existing sprinkler systems and does not design new ones.
The shop does not drill wells either. A driller does that first, and then Akland sets the pump.
